Today is the first day of fall, also known as the autumnal equinox. It’s quite fitting that the weather has started to cool down. We even turned off our air conditioner, which is good because it’s costing us a fortune. I wouldn’t say it’s cold enough to turn on the heat, but I am considering putting on a pair of socks.

I’m a little bummed that summer is coming to an end. Summer is my favorite season because of the long nights and vacations and parties. I love the warm (not HOT) weather and spending time outdoors.

But seasons come and go. Every year, summer turns to fall. Life must progress and in order for there to be summer again, there must be fall, winter, and spring. Unless, of course, you live in Hawaii.

I think now would be the appropriate time to mention the single for the upcoming New Moon soundtrack: “Meet Me At the Equinox” by Death Cab for Cutie. It’s not my favorite song, but I think it’s fitting for the mood of the movie and for this, the autumnal equinox.

Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
As we walk in the dimming light
Or darling understand

That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends
Yes, everything ends. Like summer. How profound.
I am looking forward to the things that fall will bring. I love the beautiful leaves up in the canyon.

I love apples (specifically Cameo apples), apple cider, pumpkin pie, turkey, cornfields, and Halloween. Now, if we could only figure out what costumes to wear for Halloween.

In celebration of the autumnal equinox (which is a holiday I’m sure everyone celebrates), I will be sharing some of my fall decorations. I’ve been in a crafty mood lately, which is great because I have hardly any decorations. So, not only did I save money by making these by myself, but I also got my creative fix.

Now, these decorations are nothing compared to the amazing spreads created by my friend Lis, but they’re pretty good for me.

Happy Autumnal Equinox!

As Eden and Jordan are both curled up in their beds and I stay up to catch up on some ‘Raising the Bar’ (I still love Zack Morris) I can’t help but think about how lucky I am.

Jordan is so patient and works hard to take care of our home. Above all else she puts up with me and is a great mother.

Eden is so sweet and full of life. She smiles with her big eyes (like her mom) and lights up a room. She is so smart and is curious about everything.

Man, I love my wife and daughter.

Pulchritude. What a weird name for a blog. My dad introduced me to the word some ten years ago and it has stuck with me ever since. It escapes me how such a complicated, jarring word could mean something beautiful–most likely a woman who is beautiful.

I guess that’s how life is sometimes. You know, you can always find beauty amidst the ugly. Of course, it must go both ways. That whole law of opposition always comes into play. As Leonard Cohen points out, you just need someone to “show you where to look among the garbage and the flowers.”

I’d rather find the flowers in life.
